Super Bollywood

Last Friday Aishwarya Rai and Abishek Bachan, touted as India's most powerful bollywood couple, tied the knot- and sent the rest of India into a suffocating media frenzy.
Why is it that Indian masses place precedence of such magnitude on people that pretend to be someone else on screen? Does it help them see their own lives as being projected on the big screen?
Ive never been a huge fan of Bollywood except for a few classics like aandaz, devdas and Kabi Khabie.. and Im sure alot of you realistically inclined, dance routine repulsed, original script loving, people would agree with me when I say- Bollywood is NOT original.
I mean, look at some of the major movie critic criteria being tossed out the window in most of these films:
Have you ever noticed that nothing is ever too tight for Madhuri Dixit? or for those of you who like healthy living, dont look far cos even villiage girls that live among cows and sheep have perfect skin and teeth in bollywood... or if youve ever noticed a glass pane somewhere, someone will be thrown through it before long. Oh yeah and the classic.. The main characters cannot fall in love until they have completed a full dance routine in the rain and behind trees.
I laugh at some of the far fetched rationale some of my Indian friends employ such as "Its what makes us unique", or " We are festive people by nature and like color and drama". OMG, how about "We have no creative thinking ability, so we copy hollywood scripts and simply add crying and dance to it". Of course there is some original movie making talent in the country and examples such as Mira Nair and Satyajit Ray should inspire up and coming directors and script writers to create original stuff.
Whats your take?

bollywood should take examples from indian advertising agencies that really produce some original stuff on tv, radio and print.
i dont think the problem lies in lack of creativity or originality, but more with Indian film makers to push the envelope and make fresh, unique concepts in film on the back of fear that their movies may flop.
I used to think about this a long time back. I wondered why people couldn't just grow the fuck up.
But then I grew up.
I guess it's a long and complicated story. In a nutshell, escapism for the masses.
